Really Fun Weekend!

We have had so much fun this weekend!

Friday night we went the "Hearts Afire in Venice" (lol). It was a fundraiser for the American Heart Association with a silent and live auction, and good dinner and dancing at the Westin here in Huntsville. This was my first event at the Westin, and it's absolutely beautiful. The food was pretty good, but I have a feeling the Heart Association didn't exactly want the best (least healthy?) food they have to offer. Anyway, we won they "Crazy about Pets" prize at the silent auction and got a crystal cat, a pet blanket, and $50 gift cards to a local pet store. Can't wait to spoil our little kitty with a trip there :)

Saturday we split up and hung out with friends from work all day. My friend Kristina came over and we had a baking party! Neither of us had ever made pies from scratch, and she's making one for her dad for Easter next weekend, so we had to practice! We made a lemon meringue pie, a key lime pie, and then a chocolate cake with buttercream icing--all from scratch! Even the pie crusts and icing. IMO, the chocolate cake was the best, following by the key lime, then the lemon meringue. However, none were disastrous and all were edible :) We had a really good time putting our oven through the paces, and also my mixer!

John went to his friend Levi's house to do guy-stuff. I think they played PS3, Risk, and I don't know what else :) I think they had a good time. Then, Kristina and I invited them over to taste all of our creations. They played some hoops at our house and then we had a tasting party. Nobody had to spit anything out and everyone seemed to enjoy everything.

Today, we have to work on class work and get the lawn mowed before a big cold front moves in (high of 45 on Monday! crazy!) and keeps us from going outside..booo.

Hope your weekend was as fun as mine. And please, come over and have some cake/pie.

:) Carol

Sounds like a great weekend. We'll take some of that pie - just send it on over!

Key Lime pie is off limits for everyone not named me.
